If you are a serious tower and are looking to tow over 10,000 pounds, you will need to get a pintle trailer hitch and possibly a mount.
A pintle hitch looks like the letter "C" from the side or like a giant padlock. They're designed for hauling weights of 10,000 pounds or more. The way a pintle hitch works is that the item being towed rests on the lower half and the top half raises to allow access and lowers to lock the item inside which then looks more like an "O." Pintle trailer hitches are made out of materials such as stainless steel and chrome for durability.
In some cases it is necessary to buy a pintle hitch adaptor or mount. This device is used when a vehicle is not equipped with the right hardware for a pintle hitch. The adaptor provides a compatible surface for mounting a pintle trailer hitch. These are mounted to weight distributing shanks or adjustable ballmounts. If necessary, replacement balls and pins can be purchased separately.
